UTEP To Honor Hall of Famer Camilla Carrera

EL PASO – UTEP will honor former softball standout catcher Camilla Carrera this weekend by retiring her No. 12 jersey. UTEP Softball will host the #12 Retirement Ceremony Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:30 a.m. MT at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. Media is encouraged to attend, and the event is also open to the public. 
  
Hailing from Laveen, Ariz., Carrera became one of the most storied UTEP softball players of all time. Her five-season career (2008-2012) spanned some of UTEP softball's most successful years. She graduated from UTEP with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2012. 
  
Accolades 
Carrera became the first All-American in UTEP softball history, was a two-time Conference USA Player of the Year, and was inducted into the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. Along with former teammate Stacie Townsend, they are the only two softball players to be inducted into the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame.

Rankings 
Carrera owns UTEP career records for batting average (.401), slugging percentage (.777), on-base percentage (.508), games played (227), games started (219), runs (186), hits (260), doubles (57), home runs (61), RBI (197), total bases (504), walks (132) and intentional walks (17).  

Her historic 2012 season produced an NCAA record 0.60 home runs per game, as she led the nation in homers (32) and slugging percentage (1.199). Under the NCAA All-Time Season Leaders, she currently holds the record for home runs per game, is ranked third in slugging percentage and fourth in total home runs.  


Following the retirement ceremony, UTEP Softball will host a Homecoming Home Run Derby, "Dingers for Dollars".
