Miners Climb Three Spots to Finish Fifth in Georgia

FINAL RESULTS

MACON, Ga. – 
UTEP women's golf jumped three spots on the leaderboard in final round action to finish fifth at the Mercer Invitational on Tuesday at the Brickyard Golf Club (par 72, 6,174 yards).
 
The tournament wraps up fall action for the Miners and marks the fourth top-five finish in five events this season.
 
UTEP shot a score of 898 as a team, including a final round tally of 293 that was tied with tournament champion Mercer for the second-best score of the day.
 
Individually, Marta Romeu Chen earned the first top-10 finish of her career, tying for ninth with a 5-over par 221 (70, 76, 75). A strong first round put her in position for success, compiling five birdies as part of a 2-under par 70 showing. She recorded a 5-under total on par 5 holes throughout the two days.
 
Romeu Chen has lowered her scoring average by 3.1 strokes from a year ago to this point in the campaign.
 
Sophie Delfosse saved her best for last to tie for 17th with a 223 (78, 74, 71). Andrea Ostos tied for 31st with a 228 (78, 76, 74).
 
Nawel Ben Letaief tied for 45th with a 231, Daniela Chipchase tied for 73rd with a 240 and Ella Hammond-Baveystock concluded the event in 82nd with a season-best 247 participating as an individual.
 
Host school Mercer won the tournament by 18 strokes with a 6-over par 870. Mikayla Dubnik of Mercer shot a 2-under par 214 to take home top individual honors.
 
Next up for the Miners is the Tulane Classic on Feb. 12-14 in New Orleans.
