EL PASO, Texas – UTEP women's golf has signed Luciana Origel to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Steve Sims announced on Wednesday.

Origel, an incoming freshman from Irapuato, Mexico, won the TJGT San Antonio Classic at Olmos Basin earlier this year in June.

She has also placed seventh at the AJGA Houston Junior in August and eighth at the Campeonato Nacional Edición Internacional in April.

"I couldn't be happier to add Luciana to our roster," Sims said. "I knew once she came on her official visit that she would be a perfect fit into our program. I see Luciana making an immediate impact on our team and can't wait for her to get started with us here at UTEP. Go Miners!"

UTEP has had at least one golfer on the roster from Mexico for each of the past five seasons.

Origel is the younger sister of Valentina Origel, a junior on the NM State women's golf team.
