UTEP Softball Gears Up for Battle of I-10

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP softball team (7-9) will take on I-10 rival, NM State (1-6) for a midweek matchup at the NM State Softball Complex in Las Cruces, N.M., on Wednesday (Mar. 2) at 6 p.m. MT. 

The matchup will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network, with live stats also available. 

"Taking a year off in 2021, we are excited to restart the Battle of I-10," head coach TJ Hubbard said. "After being on the road for two weeks, it will be good for a close-to-home midweek matchup. I enjoy facing off against Kathy (Rodolph) and her crew – we will have to be at our very best for this competitive matchup." 

In the Circle 

Aalijah Alarcon (3-4) leads the squad with 41.1 innings in 11 appearances and eight starts, throwing three complete-game victories and earning two saves. 

  • 3.73 ERA | 31 K's | 12 BB | 51 H | 22 of 29 runs allowed are earned 

Mackenzee Collins earned her first season win against North Dakota State on Feb. 26. In six appearances, Collins has thrown 17.2 innings with a 3.17 ERA. 

Notables 

NM State 

  • The Aggies enter the season as the defending WAC regular-season champions after they had an impressive conference-best record of 14-4 (31-21 overall). NM State sits at 1-6 on the season with the lone win against UT-Arlington, 12-7, on Feb. 18 at the Troy Cox Classic. The campaign is led by Kayla Bowen with a .500 batting average on 10 hits. She is slugging .650 with a .524 on-base percentage.  

  • After meeting twice in 2020, the Aggies lead the all-time series against the Miners, 37-12. The Aggies have won nine of the last 10 meetings.
