EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP softball program announced its 2027 Mountain West Conference schedule on Friday, as the program prepares for its inaugural season in the league.
The new-look Mountain West will feature eight softball-playing members in 2027, including Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Nevada, New Mexico, San José State, UC Davis, UNLV and UTEP. The conference has featured at least one nationally ranked program in each of the last four seasons, with Grand Canyon finishing the 2026 campaign ranked in the national top 25 while setting a league record with 54 victories.
Schedule Format
League play is set to begin on March 25 and will feature a single round-robin format with teams competing in three-game conference series each week leading up to the 2027 Mountain West Softball Championship, scheduled for May 12-15 in Phoenix, Arizona. The championship will be hosted by 2026 Mountain West Regular Season Champion Grand Canyon.
League Breakdown
UTEP will play three conference series at Helen of Troy Softball Complex during its inaugural Mountain West campaign, welcoming Hawai'i, New Mexico and UNLV to El Paso.
The Miners will open Mountain West play by hosting fellow conference newcomer Hawai'i from March 25-27. Hawai'i leads the all-time series 13-0, with the teams last meeting during the 2019 season.
UTEP then travels to Reno, Nevada, for a three-game series against Nevada from April 2-4. The Wolf Pack hold a 13-3 advantage in the all-time series, with the most recent matchup coming in 2018.
The Miners remain on the road the following weekend, April 9-11, to face defending Mountain West champion Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Arizona. The all-time series is tied 1-1 after the teams last met during the 2025 season.
UTEP returns home April 16-18 to host longtime regional rival New Mexico. The Lobos lead the all-time series 21-17 after sweeping two meetings during the 2026 season, with one game played in El Paso and the other in Albuquerque.
The Miners head west once again April 23-25 for a road series at San José State. The Spartans own an 11-4 edge in the all-time series, with the programs last squaring off in 2018.
UTEP closes out its home conference schedule by welcoming UNLV to El Paso from April 30-May 2. The Rebels lead the all-time series 7-2 and won both meetings between the teams in 2020. The 2027 series will mark the first time UNLV has played in El Paso, as all previous nine meetings have taken place in Las Vegas.
Conference play concludes May 7-9 when the Miners travel to Davis, California, to take on fellow newcomer UC Davis. The Aggies lead the all-time series 6-1 after winning all three meetings between the programs during the 2019 season.
All of UTEP's softball conference matches will be available live on the new Mountain West subscription streaming platform.
The Miners' complete 2027 schedule, including nonconference contests, will be announced at a later date.
