EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (2-6) will play at I-25 rival New Mexico (8-1) at 12 p.m. MT Saturday. The match will be the third road contest in the span of less than a week for the Miners.
"The Lobos are always a tough opponent, but we are ready for the challenge," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "WE have been competing well in several places in the lineup. We just need everyone to do it on the same day, and I know that we can turn this season around."
UTEP will be shooting for its second road win on the year and third overall during the 2022 spring campaign. The Miners have a pair of 7-0 victories to their credit, having bested Western New Mexico (Jan. 23) at home and Hardin-Simmons (Feb. 27) on the road.
Freshman
Carlotta Mencaglia has led the way for the Miners with a 4-3 mark in dual play, including 1-0 at No. 4 singles and 2-0 at No. 5 singles.
Veronika Lebisova follows at 3-2 in dual (2-1 at No. 3 singles) while
Elena Dibattista,
Kathleen Percegona and
Laura Schmitz all have multiple dual wins as well.
Thassane Abrahim and Lebisova and Mencaglia and Percegona both sport records of 3-3 in doubles dual play.
