UTEP Carries Positive Momentum into Bearkat Invitational

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP women's golf will compete in the Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston on Monday and Tuesday at the Bearkat Course (par 71, 6,058 yards).

The Miners are coming off a third-place finish at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial two weeks ago, the best overall result for the program since the 2019 season.

Action gets underway on Monday at 7:30 a.m. MT/8:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Participants will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Live results will be available on GolfStat.

Sam Houston claimed the team title last year by 11 strokes over runner-up Cal Baptist. Ellen Nicholas of UIW was the individual champion with an impressive 208 tally over the three rounds.

A total of 13 schools will partake in the event this year, including Sam Houston, Louisiana Monroe, Houston Christian, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTEP, UTRGV, UT Arlington, Tarleton State, Oklahoma City, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern and Texas A&M-Commerce.

Following a strong performance last time out, the Miners will once again go with the five of Nawel Ben Letaief, Sophie Delfosse, Marta Romeu Chen, Daniela Chipchase and Andrea Ostos. In addition to those five, sophomore Ella Hammond-Baveystock will be making her season debut as an independent.

Ben Letaief finished seventh overall in her first collegiate event at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial and Chipchase tallied a 71 right out of the chutes for a career-best round.

Romeu Chen led the Miners in the tournament last season, posting a career-best 54-hole total of 222 on the way to a tie for 17th individually.
