SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Zuzanna Szczepanska and Veronika Lebisova took home the consolation championship in the top doubles flight while Hanna Telzynska claimed a back-draw title in the second flight on the last day of the San Diego State Invitational Sunday.
 
Szczepanska and Lebisova worked their magic to take out Sofia Pinto and Mia Liepert (Minnesota) from the Big 10, 6-3. Telzynska also was a winner after besting Victoria Santibanez Luna (CSUN), 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
 
"Zu (Szczepanska) and Vero (Lebisova) defeated a team from the University of Minnesota, 6-3, to win the consolation title of the top doubles flight. Hanna (Telzynska) defeated a CSUN player, 6-3,3-6,10-8, to win the consolation title in the second flight. Overall, we played better each day as a team. We have a lot of work to do. This was a great learning experience for everyone, and we will continue to do everything to keep improving."
 
Emma Stuart went down swinging to Vitoria Solis Urdiales (CSUN), 8-5. DeCora Antoine was held off by Sofia Dermeniyan (CSUN), 8-6. Szczepanska was vanquished by Cindy Ung (CSUN), 6-4, 6-2. Lebisova was bounced by Santa Strombacha (GCU), 6-1, 6-2.
 
Carlotta Mencaglia was knocked off in tight fashion by Yulia Zhytelna (CSUN), 6-3, 2-6, 7-10. It was a similar story for Elena Dibattista in her match against Angela Ho (CSUN), where she succumbed 1-6, 6-4, 7-10. Paloma Hennicaux sustained a setback against Sofia Pizzoni (Minnesota), 6-4, 6-2.
 
Mencaglia and Telzynska were clipped by Sofia Pinto and Mia Liepert (Minnesota), 6-2. Dibattista and Stuart fell to Harper and Mortalla Sanz (CSUN), 6-1. Hennicaux and Antoine were bested by Anali Kocevar and Emma Belluomini (Minnesota), 6-1.
 
The Miners will put in work on the practice court the next couple of weeks in preparation for the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament from Oct. 18-22.
