UTEP XC to Conclude Regular Season at Arturo Barrios Invite Friday Morning

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP cross country team will conclude regular-season action when the Miners compete at the Arturo Barrios Invitational hosted by Texas A&M at Dale Watts Cross Country Course in College Station on the morning of Friday the 13th
 
The gun goes off at 7:30 a.m. MT for the men's 8k race, followed by the women running the 6k course at 8:15 a.m. MT. 
 
UTEP will compete against a field of 42 teams including host Texas A&M, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boston College, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, McNeese State, NM State, Nicholls State, North Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, TAMU Corpus Christi, TAMU Texarkana, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulane, UCF, UCLA, Utah Valley, UT-Arlington, UTRGV, UTSA and Youngstown State.

Competing on the women's side are Angie Calderon, Ruth Jerubet, Joan Kimaiyo, Vallary Kiplagat, Salma Licon, Victoria Ovalles, Pamela Ramirez Elizalde, Alexa Rangel, and Elise Wilcher.
 
Running for the men are Titus Cheruiyot, Victor Kibiego, Maxwell Kipkosgei, Juan Olmos, Kenneth Talavera, Alejandro Tarin, and Angel Torres
 
Following Friday's competition, the Miners will then prepare for the 2023 Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Bowling Green, Ky. The NCAA Mountain Regionals is Nov. 10 in Lubbock, Texas. 
 
ARTURO BARRIOS HISTORY
Arturo Barrios is a member of the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame class of 1998. During his time in Aggieland, Barrios set school records in the 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, and 10,000m races and was a three-time Southwest Conference Champion. In 1985, he was a silver medalist in the NCAA Championships in the 10,000m with a record time of 28:42.77. After graduating from Texas A&M, Barrios represented Mexico in the 1988 Olympic Games setting world records at distances of 10,000m, 20,000m and one-hour run.
