SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The UTEP doubles pairing of
Veronika Lebisova and
Carlotta Mencaglia was derailed in the round of 32 at the ITA Mountain Region Championships on Thursday.
Lebisova and Mencaglia, who defeated 16th seeded Nikol Dobrilova and Jeselle Ante (Wyoming), 8-7, in the opening day of the event, couldn't replicate the results in round two. The duo was bested by Ana Luisa Cruz and Sara Akid (Utah).
"We lost in doubles to a pair from Utah that took out the number five seed in the first round," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We played as hard as possible but with Lotti (Mencaglia) not at 100 percent, we were not able to play as well as yesterday. This was a great learning experience, and we will head back home tomorrow and get back to work for our last three tournaments of the semester."
The Miners return to action at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Abilene Christian from Oct. 27-29.
