ABILENE, Texas – The UTEP tennis team churned out an impressive effort on the final day of action at the Wildcat Invite Sunday.
Veronika Lebisova,
Zuzanna Szczepanska,
Hanna Telzynska and
Paloma Hennicaux each produced victories to lead the charge to a 4-2 mark in singles action against foes from Texas State.
"Due to rain and only three indoor courts, we only played singles today," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We won four out of six singles vs Texas State. Vero (Lebisova) continues her winning streak, as well as Hanna (Telzynska). Zu (Szczepanska) and Palo (Hennicaux) were the other singles wins. It was a good finish for us today. It's great to have Zu and Palo winning again after battling some medical issues. We learned a lot this weekend. We still have a long way to go but overall, we are happy with how hard we fought these last two days."
Lebisova knocked off Callie Creath 4-6, 6-0, 10-5, to conclude the weekend with a stellar mark of 5-0. Szczepanska bested Andrea Pineda 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Telzynska blasted Mae McCutcheon in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 while Hennicaux secured a 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 victory against Jacqueline Schnabel.
Elena Dibattista was clipped by Maria Lora, 7-6, 6-4.
Emma Stuart was upended by Jadeh Chan, 6-0, 3-6, 5-10.
The Miners will be back on the courts at home with the UTEP Invitational from Friday through Sunday at the El Paso Tennis Club. Admission is free of charge.
