EL PASO, Texas – Paloma Hennicaux turned in a perfect day of action to set the tone for the Miners on day two of the UTEP Invitational at the El Paso Tennis Club Saturday.
 
"We again had a solid day, splitting all the matches today," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "Vero (Lebisova) and Zu (Szczepanska) had our only doubles win today, beating the UNM doubles team that won the regional championships last year. In singles, we got four wins today again from Lotti (Mencaglia), Vero, Ele (Dibattista), and Palo (Hennicaux). I really like what I am seeing from the team on the court, and the effort that they are putting out. We had a lot of good energy today, and the great fans made it easy for us to stay motivated. We have another tough day ahead of us tomorrow, but we are excited for the challenge."
 
Szczepanska and Lebisova bested Leonie Hoppe and Katherine Jhang (New Mexico), the 2022 regional champions, in a back-and-forth match, 7-6. Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska were clipped by Hsuan Huang and Maud Vandeputte (New Mexico), 6-4. Emma Stuart and Elena Dibattista fell by a final score of 6-0 to Bente Vandeputte and Maria Sodre (New Mexico).
 
Hennicaux showed off her mettle with a three-set win against Sodre, emerging victorious 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Mencaglia took care of business vs. Jhang 7-6, 6-4.
 
Lebisova joined in the winning ways, doing so in three sets against Hoppe by a final count of 6-0, 5-7, 6-1. For the second straight day, Dibattista rallied for a triumph after dropping the first set. She took down Bente Vandeputte in dramatic fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.
 
Telzynska was dispatched by Huang, 6-0, 6-4 while Szczepanska fell to Maud Vandeputte, 6-1, 6-4. Stuart was derailed by Sofia Taborga, 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Miners will wrap up their Invitational at the El Paso Tennis Club on Sunday. Play will begin at 9 a.m. MT with doubles.
