EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team will look to put it all together with a pair of matches this weekend in Boise, Idaho. The Miners (1-4) will square off at Boise State (3-2) at 11 a.m. MT Saturday before concluding the trip with a neutral match-up with NAIA program the College of Idaho (1-1) at 10 a.m. MT Sunday.
UTEP has had some close calls on the year, including most recently being edged by UTSA, 4-3, in its Conference USA opener on Jan. 27.
"It's good to be heading back on the court for a couple of good matches in Boise," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "Even though we are not at full strength in our lineup, we are up for the challenge and are ready to play hard."
In doubles action the tandems of both
Thassane Abrahim and
Veronika Lebisova and
Eve Daniels and
Carlotta Mencaglia have produced a pair of victories to set the tone during the dual season. Abrahim and Lebisova have tallied a team-high eight triumphs in doubles action on the overall campaign.
In singles play, Abrahim,
Elena Dibattista and Mencaglia have all delivered two dual wins to lead the way. Abrahim, Lebisova and Mencaglia each have a total of six victories in 2022-23.
Following the roadswing, UTEP returns home to kick off a four-game homestand against UIW (12 p.m.- Feb. 17). The Miners will also face Northern Arizona (10 a.m.-Feb. 18), Abilene Christian (10 a.m.-Feb. 25) and New Mexico (10 a.m.-Feb. 26). The match with the Lobos will serve as the "915 contest" for the Orange and Blue. Each of the matches will be held at the El Paso Tennis Center, and admission is free.
