Trio Posts Career Rounds as Miners Tie For Fifth in Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. – UTEP women's golf climbed seven spots over the final two rounds to finish tied for fifth at the GCU Invitational on Tuesday at the GCU Golf Course (par 72).

The Miners capped the tournament with an 879 (304, 290, 285) total that was the second-lowest tally for the program this season.

This is the sixth time in seven events on the campaign that UTEP has earned a top-five result as a team.

For the second straight event, Daniela Chipchase led the Miners, compiling a 4-over par 220 (77, 73, 70) that was highlighted by a career-best 70 in the final round as she tied for 26th.

Marta Romeu Chen was just one stroke behind Chipchase, tying for 32nd with a 221 (76, 75, 70).

Nawel Ben Letaief posted a 225 (74, 73, 78) to tie for 46th and Andrea Ostos tied for 49th with a 226 (80, 69, 77). For Ostos, the 69 in the second round was the best of her career.

Ben Letaief tied for second amongst all competitors with a 1-under par effort on par 3 scoring during the tournament.

A third UTEP participant also shot a career-best round in the event, as Sophie Delfosse generated a 68 in the final round on Tuesday. Delfosse finished 94th (77-D-68) individually.

Louisiana Monroe ran away with the team title with a 19-under par 845 effort. The Warhawks shattered the previous tournament record set last year by GCU by 15 strokes.

GCU's Lani Luafalealo earned outright first place after breaking a three-way tie by winning the playoff hole.

UTEP returns to action in two weeks at the HCU Husky Invitational hosted by Houston Christian.
