UTEP T&F Wraps Up Regular Season at Don Kirby Friday and Saturday

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP track and field team will compete in its final tune up before conference championships at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational hosted by New Mexico in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday and Saturday.  
 
Friday's events will begin at 10 a.m. and will wrap up at 6:50 p.m. Saturday's events will commence at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 3 p.m.

Making the trip on the men's side are Jakub Belik (high jump), Stephen Carreto (4x400), Titus Cheruiyot (3000m), Karon Dean (60m, 4x400), Ronaldo Griffiths (4x400), Joshua Hill (400m, 4x400), Maxwell Kipkosgei (800m, mile), Yusuf Mohamud (800m, mile), Elijah Munoz (60m H, shot put, long jump), Julio Pacheco (4x400), Mathew Polk (4x400), Abdulraof Rashid (60m, 200m, 4x400), Emilio Rios Jr. (high jump, triple jump), Kenneth Talavera (mile), Zacarias Velasquez (60m, long jump, triple jump), and Jordani Woodley (60m H, 4x400). 
 
Competing for the women are Loubna Benhadja (4x400), Chinique Brown (200m), Oghenekaro Brume (400m, 4x400), Niesha Burgher (200m, 4x400), Lizbeth Fierro (shot put, weight throw), Angie Calderon (800m), Carshaylah Harrison (4x400), Asia Hodge (60m, 200m), Ruth Jerubet (mile), Joan Kimaiyo (3000m), Denae McFarlane (60m, 4x400), Arianne Morais (shot put), Natalie J. Murillo (shot put, weight throw), Victoria Ovalles (3000m), and Marisa Simpson (60m H).

  • Jerubet leads C-USA in the 5000m (16:55.47), ranks third in the mile (4:55.54@) and second in the 3000m (9:41.37@)
  • Simpson leads C-USA in the 60m H (8.25@)
  • Women's 4x400 (Benhadja, Burgher, Harrison, Brume) leads C-USA (3:41.84@)
  • Benhadja ranks second in the 400m (55.12@)
  • Brume ranks third in the 400m (55.16@)

PREVIOUS MEET NOTES (UNM COLLEGIATE CLASSIC – 02.3-4.23)
Bernal (3000m), Jerubet (3000m), Mohamud (800m) and Talavera (mile) each won their respective events at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 3-4. 
 
Talavera clocked in a season-best 4:03.26@ (converted for altitude) in the mile, and winning the mile for the second time this season and third time during his career.
 
Mohamud won his first career 800m race, clocking in a 1:51.22. 
 
Jerubet (9:56.05) won her second 3000m race this season, while Bernal (8:21.96) won his first career 3000m.
 
Woodley topped his own school record in the 60m hurdles, clocking in a 7.80. His previous best was 7.82 in his first ever indoor event as a Miner.
 
Benhadja clocked in a personal-best 55.01 in the 400m dash. 
 
The women's 4x400m relay team (Benhadja, Burgher, Harrison, Brume) turned a season-best 3:41.40.
