Miners Return to Action Monday at HCU Husky Invitational

3/11/2023 7:45:00 AM

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP women's golf heads to the HCU Husky Invitational this upcoming Monday and Tuesday to compete in an event that the program has had success in over the last couple of years.

Last season, the Miners took home a season-best fourth-place finish behind Sophie Delfosse tying for third. In the 2021-22 campaign, Delfosse shot a 3-under par 213 on the way to finishing second, with the team capping the event in sixth.

Riverbend Country Club (par 72, 6,100 yards) in Sugar Land will once again play host to the event, which will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.

A total of 15 schools are set to compete, including UTEP, HCU, Illinois State, UT Arlington, Omaha, Tarleton State, UTRGV, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Charleston Southern, Sam Houston, Bradley, Texas A&M Commerce, Louisiana Monroe, Appalachian State and Lamar.

Daniela Chipchase, Marta Romeu Chen, Nawel Ben Letaief, Andrea Ostos and Delfosse will be the five taking the course for the Miners.

Ostos, Delfosse and Chipchase all compiled career-low rounds during the GCU Invitational and will be looking to carry that momentum into the tournament as UTEP looks for another top-five finish after racking up six to this point in the season over seven events.

Delfosse tees off first at 7:30 a.m. MT/8:30 a.m. CT on Monday.

UTEP is currently ranked 109th with two regular season events remaining on the schedule.
