Romeu Chen Earns First Top-Five at HCU Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Behind the first top-five finish in Marta Romeu Chen's career, UTEP women's golf wrapped up fourth at the HCU Husky Invitational on Tuesday at the Riverbend Country Club (par 72, 6,100 yards).

Romeu Chen capped the first round in sole possession of first place on the way to eventually concluding the tournament with a 6-over par 222 (71, 77, 74) to tie for fourth.

In the opening two rounds, Romeu Chen posted four birdies each to keep pace with the top of the leaderboard throughout.

As a team, UTEP put together a 906 (307-304-295) to take home the fifth top-five finish in a row for the Miners. The 295 final round was the second-lowest team tally over the 18 holes behind Sam Houston, which earned overall top honors with an 880 for the event to clear the next-closest competitor by 21 strokes.

All four counting scores for the Miners finished in the top-25, as Daniela Chipchase tied for 14th with a 228, with Andrea Ostos and Nawel Ben Letaief each compiling 230 scores to tie for 24th.

Sophie Delfosse tied for 45th with a 238 three-round total.

Once again, UTEP ranked well in the field with 169 pars as a team, the second-highest number of any participating program behind the 176 of Sam Houston.

Elise Parel of HCU was the top individual with an even-par 216 score.

UTEP concludes the regular season on April 3-4 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic hosted in Maricopa, Ariz. At the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
