UTEP Softball Welcomes WKU

EL PASO - The UTEP softball team (9-14, 1-2 Conference USA) will host WKU (15-8) for a three-game series at Helen of Troy Field. The games will be played on Friday (March 17) at 6 p.m. MT, Saturday (March 18) at 3 p.m. MT, and Sunday (March 19) at 12 p.m. MT.

Leading Off for the Miners  

  • UTEP leads Conference USA in doubles (40), doubles per game (1.74), home runs per game (1.30) and slugging percentage (0.517). The Miners' doubles count ranks 19th in the NCAA.   

  • UTEP batted .304 through 23 games (which included a Top 5 opponent) paced by four players with 40-plus plate appearances who were batting at or above the mark (Morales, Favre, Dooner, Brockway). Leading the way is junior Lexi Morales who is hitting .426 on 29 hits with eight (8) doubles and 13 RBI. She's slugged .544 with a .564 on-base percentage.     

  • Morales is one of six (6) Miners to have double digit RBIs already on the season, with Savannah Favre leading the way with 22. 

  • Against UTSA, Caitlyn Brockway went 4-for-9 in the batter's box with a double and a grand slam for six (6) RBI.  

  • Nine (9) players have posted at least one home run for the Miners. UTEP has shredded more home runs than its opponents, 30-26, through 23 games with Favre and Ajia Richard accounting for five (5) each. 

  • Five (5) arms combined in the circle against UTSA with Aalijah Alarcon tabbing a win in the final game of the series. Alarcon combined for 11.1 innings with two (2) strikeouts. 

  • UTEP has had 23 of 25 players see action during a game at some point this season.

  • WKU sits at 15-8 on the season    

  • The team is led by Taylor Sanders a with a .406 batting average on 28 hits. She is slugging .696 with a .512 on-base percentage   

  • WKU has utilized four (4) pitchers through 23 games, with Katie Gardner leading the charge with a team-high 75.0 innings in 15 appearances and 14 starts. Garnder has 4.32 ERA with 75 strikeouts and has given up 38 walks, 70 hits and 39 runs allowed (36 earned) and has a 6-5 record. As a staff, the Hilltoppers carry a 4.15 ERA, allowing 141 hits and striking out 119. They have given up 24 doubles, 11 triples and 13 home runs.
