EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team has a busy weekend ahead, competing at I-10 rival NM State at 10 a.m. MT Friday before playing hosting to Weatherford College at 12 p.m. MT Saturday for "Senior Day." Saturday's match will serve as the home finale for the 2023 spring season and the last home match of their careers for seniors Thassane Abrahim and Eve Daniels.
 
"This rivalry with NM State always makes this match extremely exciting for everyone," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We expect a very competitive match tomorrow morning. We then have a quick turn around on Saturday for our "Senior Day" against Weatherford College as we honor two great seniors in Eve Daniels and Thassane Abrahim. It's crazy how fast the time flies, but it has been a great honor and privilege to see these two grow and mature into amazing women."
 
The Miners are 2-8 on the campaign, but two of those losses were by the 4-3 variety meaning they are a different outcome at two different matches away from standing .500 on the season. It is a special opportunity for the Orange and Blue to send out the seniors victorious in their home finale. The duo also has the opportunity to knock off the Aggies for the second time in the past three seasons.
 
Abrahim enters with momentum, having secured wins in back-to-back singles matches. She stands at 9-9 on the season on the campaign, including tying for the team lead in victories during singles triumphs with Carlotta Mencaglia at five.
 
Abrahim also competes with the top tandem for the Orange and Blue in doubles action, playing alongside Veronika Lebisova. The pairing has produced a 5-4 record at No. 1 doubles. Daniels has been a part of 12 combined victories during the campaign.
