The UTEP track and field team started competition on Thursday (three meets in three days) at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Classic in California. Competition will resume at a third meet, in the Beach Invitational on Saturday.

WALNUT, Calif. – Arianne Morais launched her javelin 57.38 meters (188-3) up the program's top-10 list and top half of the NCAA outdoor performance list rankings at the 2023 Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.

Morais won the women's javelin throw elite with her sling that ranks third nationally and first in Conference USA. The junior now ranks second in the program's record book behind Angeliki Tsiolakoudi (60.26 [197-8] – 2000). Her mark beat Erma Gene Evans's 2007 performance (56.45 [185-2]). Her previous best was 55.13m (180-10), which was ranked fourth heading into the meet.

It was Morais's only second meet of the season. She competed at the Willie Williams a few weeks back, but fouled all three attempts.

Niesha Burgher clocked in a personal-best 11.51 and finished second in the women's 100-meter dash. The junior transfer ranks second behind teammate Denae McFarlane (11.48) in C-USA. Burgher's previous best was an 11.62. Burgher qualified for the final after an 11.54 (second in heat 1, third overall) in the preliminaries earlier in the day.

Burgher's time ranks tied eighth on the program's top-10 list with Janice Jackson (2014).

Daniel Bernal competed on Thursday night, clocking in a 28:54.59 in the men's 10,000-meter race. The senior ranks second in C-USA.

Kibiego won the men's 5000-meter race, clocking in a personal-best 14:00.10. It was his first outdoor 5000m event as a Miner. The freshman ranks first in C-USA.

Kibiego blasted his previous PR with an 8:41.90 in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase and placing fourth. He ranks first in C-USA. His previous best was 9:15.10.
