BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - UTEP softball suffered its second shutout loss this season in the series opener versus UAB. The Blazers surrendered only three hits to the Miners in their 6-0-win Friday evening at Mary Bowers Field.
The Blazers dispensed six runs over four innings as they struck first in the third frame with an RBI double by Bella Wiggins and an RBI sacrifice flyout by Lindsey Smith. UAB went up 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a UTEP error, a single and a double. A single by Lauren Brock and a UTEP fielding error made way for pinch runner Kaily Collett to round the bases to put up UAB's final run of the game in the sixth inning.
UAB's pitcher, Leigha Kirby, limited the Miners to just three hits on the day and struck out four.
