UTEP T&F set to Compete at the ’23 C-USA Championships May 11-14

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP track and field team will compete at the 2023 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Denton, Texas, at UNT Track & Field Stadium on May 11-14.

The championships will start on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. CT/1:45 MT with the heptathlon, while the men's decathlon will begin at 3:15 p.m. CT/2:15 MT. The Charlotte men's team will defend its league title for the fifth consecutive season as the 49ers have won the last four C-USA Championships (2022, 2021, 2019, 2018). The Middle Tennessee will defend its crown on the women's side.

Making the trip on the men's side are Jakub Belik (high jump), Jalen Cadet (decathlon, 200m, high jump, long jump), Titus Cheruiyot (5000m, 10,000m), Karon Dean (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400), Ronaldo Griffiths (400m H), Joshua Hill (400m, 4x100, 4x400), Dennis Johnson (100m, 4x100), Victor Kibiego (1500m, 5000m, 3000m steeplechase), Julio Pacheco Estrada (400m, 4x400), Yusuf Mohamud (800m, 1500m, 5000m), Abdulroauf Rashid (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400), Emilio Rios (high jump), Michael Sims (800m, 5000m), Maurice Westmoreland (discus), and Jordani Woodley (110m H, 4x100, 4x400).

Competing for the women are Loubna Benhadja (400m H, 4x400), Oghenekaro Brume (200m, 4x100,m 4x400), Niesha Burgher (100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x400), Lizbeth Fierro (shot put, hammer throw), Carshaylah Harrison (400m H, 4x400, high jump), Asia Hodge (100m, 200m), Ruth Jerubet (1500m, 5000m, 3000m steeplechase), Denae McFarlane (100m, 200m, 4x100), Zani Meaders (400m, 4x100), Arianne Morais (javelin), Natalie J. Murillo (discus, hammer throw), Victoria Ovalles (5000m, 10,000m), Marissa Simpson (200m, 100m H), Karen Villa Medina (heptathlon), and Roosa Yloenen (javelin).

THE LAST TIME
UTEP last won a men's outdoor championship during the 2013 season, while the women last captured an outdoor league title in 2017. The Miners' men's team has finished in second place the last two seasons.
