Stanton Garners Second CUSA Freshman of the Week Honor

DALLAS – UTEP's Aaliyah Stanton earned her second Conference USA Freshman of the Week honor of the season after two stout performances against LA Tech and Sam Houston. The 2023-24 Players of the Week are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by the league's sports information directors.
 
"Aaliyah stepped up in our last two games," Head Coach Keitha Adams said. "I thought we improved in our game management, and she finished strong in critical game situations."
 
CUSA Freshman of the Week – Aaliyah Stanton
Had two stellar games this week to help the Miners go 2-0... put up 13 points and had an assist in just 19 minutes against LA Tech ... shot 66.7 percent (4-6) from the field including one three pointer and 80.0 percent (4-5) from the foul line against the Lady Techsters ... put the team on her back and scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter to help lift UTEP over Sam Houston Saturday ... also dished out a team-high four assists and grabbed a rebound against the Bearkats ... shot 50.0 percent (3-6) from the field ... ranks second on the team in assists with 1.8 per game... also ranks second on the team in field goal percentage (48.9) and three-point percentage (44.0).
 
Stanton won CUSA Freshman of the Week for the first time on Nov. 27.
 
The last time a Miner won multiple Freshman of the Week awards was in the 2016-16 season when former player and current UTEP assistant coach Lulu McKinney won it three times.

UP NEXT
UTEP heads out on a three-game road spell. Up first, the Miners travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to take on Jax State Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. MT/ 6:30 p.m. CT. After that, the road trip continues in Lynchburg, Va., on Feb. 3 when UTEP takes on Liberty at 11:00 a.m. MT/ 1:00 p.m. ET. Finally, the second battle of I-10 of the season takes place Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m. MT in the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
