LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTEP tennis team endured some long weather delays before playing a pair of matches in doubles to wrap up its competition at the prestigious ITA Mountain Regionals Saturday. The Miners came up shy in each contest, but still showed plenty of potential over three days of action.

"This tournament was a great learning experience for everyone," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "I felt like we were able to compete well, and it showed us how we stacked up with all the teams in our region. We saw some really good matches from everyone. It is unfortunate we couldn't stay in the main draw a little longer, but we know we still have a lot of work to do in order to keep improving."

A trio of tandems were in action in consolation play for the Miners. Candice Bernier and Zuzanna Szczepanska fell, 6-2, vs. Ida Johansson and Chenyue (Idaho). Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska were doubled up by Amahee Charrier and Silvia-Maria Costache (Nevada), 6-3. Wendy Zhang and Paloma Hennicaux were unable to compete due to rain.

The Orange and Blue will be back in action when they play host to the UTEP Invitational Nov. 1-3 at the El Paso Tennis Club. Admission will be free of admission.
