UTEP Men’s Golf takes Momentum to Alistar MacKenzie Invite Oct. 7-8

EL PASO – UTEP men's golf, coming off a fifth-place finish, will compete in its fourth tournament during the fall slate when the Miners tee off at the 2024 Alistar MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club (par 71 | 6,734 yards) in Fairfax, Calif., on Monday and Tuesday.   
 
Monday's first two rounds (36 holes) begin with an 8 a.m. PT/9 MDT shotgun start. Tuesday's final round (18 holes) will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PT. Live results will be on Golfstat.
 
Taking the links for the Miners are Dylan Teeter (70.3 stroke average), Max Schliesing (72.0), Braden Smith (72.6), Alexandre Godin (74.0) and Connor Steichen (season debut). 
 
Teeter leads the team in stroke average, while the senior is ranked 88th in the PGA Tour University Rankings. Teeter is also a reigning CUSA co-Golfer of the Week, making it his second weekly honor this season. Teeter is the first Miner to earn multiple awards in a season since the 2008-09 campaign when Roger Sloan was named the golfer of the week three times. Teeter is also the first Miner to place first in multiple tournaments in a season since Aaron Terrazas did so during the 2018-19 campaign. 
 
The Miners will compete against host Cal, Cal Poly, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Minnesota, Nevada, Pacific, San Diego, San Jose State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, St. Mary's (Calif.), UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and Stanford.

Dylan Teeter captured another first-place showing and the Miners shot their lowest score (840) in seven seasons to finish in fifth place at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National GC (par 72 | 7,567 yards) on Sept 30-Oct. 1.
 
UTEP (285-272-283) shot 24-under par 840. It was the lowest score over a 54-hole tournament since shooting 839 on Oct. 20-22, 2017. The Miners' score of 272 in round two was the lowest round for the program since the 2016-17 season
 
Teeter (69-65-69) finished his successful 54 holes with a career-low 13-under par 203 and tied for first place with Colorado's Justin Biwer (67-68-68) and St. Mary's (Calif.) Aidan Lee (66-69-68). The trio only had time for one playoff hole in which Teeter and Lee pared hole 18 and Biwer bogeyed. Teeter led the field with a 3-under on par 3 holes (2.75 avg.). He penciled in 36 pars, 14 birdies and an eagle during the two-day event. 
 
Max Schliesing (70-69-70) finished tied for 10th at 7-under par 209. Schliesing registered a team-high 15 birdies as it was tied for fifth most overall.
