EL PASO – UTEP men's golf head coach Aaron Puetz announced on Wednesday that Emilio Arellano Lamas will transfer to UTEP from Wichita State.

Arellano Lamas recently completed his third collegiate season with the Shockers. The native of Aguascalientes, Mexico, commenced his college career at Indian Hills Community College for two seasons (2023-24, 2024-25) before transferring to Wichita State.

"We have been following Emilio for several years now. He is a highly competitive Student-Athlete who climbs the rankings every year," Puetz said. "Being from Mexico, Emilio will be a perfect fit for our community and team. As we transition to the MW, Emilio's experience is exactly what we are looking for to start in the Fall of 2026. Welcome to the 9-1-5, Emilio!"

Arellano Lamas made an impact, playing in 10 tournaments and carding a 72.3 stroke average – third best on the team. He recorded three top-10 finishes in four tournaments (most during the fall season) and set a Shocker men's golf program record for consecutive rounds under par at eight rounds between Sept. 22 and Oct. 7. Arellano Lamas birdied 40 holes, third most among WSU players. He was the only Shocker to record multiple top-five finishes and recorded four rounds in the 60s. Arellano Lamas shot a season-low 68 in round two at the Git-R-Done Invitational. He shot 4-under par 209, tying for fifth. He tied his season low with a 68 in the first round at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational (6-under par 207, t-7th). Arellano Lamas tied for fifth at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, shooting 5-under par 211.

While at Indian Hills CC during his last season in 2024-25 as a sophomore, Arellano Lamas played in 11 tournaments and penciled in a 72.4 stroke average. He shot a career-best 65 in the third round at the Wright State Invitational, finishing second at 8-under 205. During his freshman season, he played in 11 events with a 73.7 scoring average. He was fifth at the Western Illinois Intercollegiate. He was named a 2025 NJCAA Division I Men's Golf All-American second team and was a 2025 NJCAA Division I Men's Golf PING All-District selection. Arellano Lamas was a member of the 2025 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year and was a five-time ICCAC Division I Men's Golfer of the Week.
