EL PASO, Texas – Hanna Telzynska and Wendy Zhang each won a singles match for the third time in as many days to put the finishing touches on an outstanding weekend of play at the UTEP Invitational at the El Paso Tennis Club Sunday. Telzynska also joined forces with Carlotta Mencaglia in doubles action for a triumph, allowing the duo to complete an undefeated weekend of play as a pairing.
 
"Hanna went undefeated this weekend in both singles and doubles," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "Wendy went undefeated in singles. We won 14 out of 23 matches this weekend. I am really proud of how hard the team played this weekend. They really fought hard and got some great results. We hope to keep it going one more tournament."
 
The Miners went 14-9 to successfully defend their home court, rolling to a record of 10-6 in singles and 4-3 in doubles play.
 
Mencaglia and Telzynska showed toughness in a 6-4 triumph against Sara Sadadinovic and Nayuma Subba (Sam Houston). Zhang and Paloma Hennicaux joined but fell by a count of 6-4 vs. Dora Kurdi and Whitney Moon (NM State).
 
The Orange and Blue then switched their focus to singles. Zhang was in cruise control in a 6-2, 6-3, dismantling of Sofia Taborga (New Mexico). Telzynska kicked things into high gear by rallying past Moon, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3.
 
Mencaglia was clipped by Anna Pinaieva (NM State), 7-6, 6-1. Zuzanna Szczepanska was outlasted by Subba, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Hennicaux couldn't quite pull it out in a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, setback at the hands of Adithi Venkata Krishnan (Sam Houston).
 
UTEP will vie to put the cherry on top of an outstanding fall slate when it competes at the CSUN Invitational from Nov. 8-10.
