FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The UTEP tennis team played hard but couldn't come away with the win in a 4-0 neutral-site setback to Wyoming Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls (4-4) took the doubles point and the Miners (1-5) couldn't rally in singles play. The match was played in clinch format.  
 
"We had an uphill battle today vs a very strong Wyoming team," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We fought as hard as we could. This weekend has been a really good learning experience. Now, we need to put what we learned into practice."
 
In doubles play, Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska were bounced by Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova, 6-2, the No. 2 position. Zuzanna Szczepanska and Veronika Lebisova came up short against Sophie Zehender and Violetta Borodina, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles went unfinished with Wyoming having clinched the point.
 
UTEP aspired to rally in singles action, but it wasn't in the cards. Playing without Lebisova (slated for No. 2 singles), everyone else was forced to move up a slot. Mencaglia fell to Zehender, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Paloma Hennicaux was tripped up by Ante, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. Emma Stuart was defeated by Malinak, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
 
With the team outcome having been decided, all the other matches went unfinished.
 
The Miners will look to get back into the win column when they play at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Thursday.
