2/14/2024 12:48:00 PM

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (1-5) will continue a difficult stretch when it plays at Texas A&M Corpus Christi (7-1) at 9 a.m. MT/10 a.m. CT Thursday and at UTRGV (3-1) at 9 a.m. MT/10 a.m. CT Saturday.

The two opponents are a combined 10-2 on the season, with the Islanders standing a flawless 4-0 at home. The Vaqueros will be playing for just the second time this year at home, but they are coming off a 4-3 win at Big 12 foe Houston to improve to 3-0 on the road. It was the program's first ever victory against the Cougars.

The week continues a demanding stretch where the Miners will have had five straight (four road, one neutral) matches outside the friendly confines of the Sun City.

"We have another challenging set of matches this week at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday and at UTRGV on Saturday," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We will continue to make adjustments in doubles and singles lineup to see if we can improve our performance. The team is hungry to get back to winning, and we are ready play hard again this week.

Elena Dibattista, Paloma Hennicaux, Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska have all posted two victories in dual play to set the tone in singles action. Mencaglia has been holding down the top slot. In doubles action, Mencaglia and Telzynska are leading the way with a mark of 4-2, doing so at No. 2 doubles.

UTEP will be taking aim at its initial road victory of the campaign, in addition to getting back into the win column overall after the season-opening triumph vs. WNMU.
