EL PASO, Texas – Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska remained undefeated (4-0) in doubles during the dual season and Veronika Lebisova cruised to a win via straight sets in singles, but the UTEP tennis team was defeated at home by UT Arlington, 4-1, in a match delayed several times due to weather on Wednesday. With rain and heavy winds in the area, clinch-style format was for the contest.

"We had a tough day again today," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We saw some brief moments of improvement but could not hold on to pull out enough matches for the win. Hanna and Lotti are still undefeated in doubles this spring, but we need to start winning the doubles point to give us some momentum going into the singles. We will keep working and get ready for NAU and Wyoming this weekend in Flagstaff."

The Miners (1-3) battled hard in doubles, with Mencaglia and Telzynska drilling Francisca Vergara and Bruna Casasampere, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. Elena Dibattista and DeCora Antoine fell to Sarina Reinertsen and Ana Paula Jimenez, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles. The Mavericks (3-0) then managed to take the doubles point after Zuzanna Szczepanska and Lebisova put up a great fight only to fall to Tara Gorinsek and Mariana Manyoma, 6-4, at the top slot.

Lebisova rolled past Reinertsen with relative ease, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 2 singles, but UTA got enough done on other courts to take the team triumph. Szczepanska sustained a narrow 6-4, 6-4, setback at No. 3 singles vs. Manyoma. Telzynska couldn't keep her momentum from doubles in falling to Jimenez, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 singes.

Paloma Hennicaux battled before coming up shy, 6-0, 7-5, against Casasampere at No. 6 singles. The other two matches, both of which were in the early stages of the third set, went unfinished with the team outcome decided.

UTEP will have to flip the script quickly, as it takes to the road for the first time of the spring season by locking up at Northern Arizona on Friday. The Miners then face Wyoming in a neutral-site match (Flagstaff, Ariz.) on Saturday.
