UTEP Tennis To Play Two Matches In As Many Days In Arizona

2/8/2024 5:00:00 PM

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (1-3 CUSA) will continue a busy week of action when it plays at Northern Arizona (0-0) at 10 a.m. MT Friday. The Miners will then wrap up their stay in Arizona with a neutral-site tilt against Wyoming (3-4) at 10 a.m. MT Saturday.

It will mark the first opportunity to compete outside of El Paso this spring for the Orange and Blue, who are coming off a hard-fought 4-1 setback against perennial power UT Arlington on Feb. 7.

"We are hitting the road for the first time this spring," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We have two tough matches this weekend vs NAU and Wyoming in Flagstaff. I know we will play hard, and we can hopefully continue to improve with each match."

Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska will lead the charge in doubles action. The duo has been perfect (4-0) in the dual season thus far and will vie to keep things rolling this weekend. UTEP has two victories total in doubles courtesy of the other pairings this spring.

In singles action, Elena Dibattista (2-1), Paloma Hennicaux (2-2) and Telzynska (2-2) share the team lead for triumphs in dual action.
