Parnov Sets UTEP T&F Record in the Women’s Pole Vault at Texas Relays Thursday

AUSTIN, Texas – UTEP track and field freshman phenom Alla Parnov leaped a school-record 4.25 meters (13-11.25) in the women's pole vault event at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
 
Parnov entered the weekend ranked no. 1 on the Conference USA performance list. Parnov's personal-best mark broke her previous best and school-best 4.15 meters set in her first career collegiate outdoor meet at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta on March 16. Parnov attempted the next mark of 4.35 meters but came up short in all three tries. 
 
Loubna Benhadja qualified in the women's 400-meter hurdles prelims, placing seventh with a 58.21 at the Texas Relays. The junior hurdler/sprinter will run the 400m final on Friday at 4:35 p.m. MT/5:35 CT. It was Benhadja's first 400 hurdles event of the season already beating out Jax State's Hailey Tucker's CUSA-best 1:01.51. 
 
In San Marcos, Texas, Jalen Cadet leaped a personal-best 7.54 meters (24-9) in the men's long jump and claimed a first-place finish. Cadet's mark beat out teammate A'Tiq Muhammad who was in first with 7.21 on the CUSA performance list. 
 
Freshman Brenda Jerop wrapped up the evening in Austin with a 41:25.96 in the women's 10,000-meter event. Jerop topped Jax State's Sierra Wainer's time of 41:39.52, who entered the weekend as the CUSA leader. 
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The weekend proceeds Friday with Kenneth Talavera (1500m) and Sandra Maiyo (10,000m) running at the Stanford Invitational in Cobb Track & Angell Field on Friday. The Miners will also continue action at the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational on Friday. 
 
A few notables competing on Friday at the Texas Relays are hurdlers Jordani Woodley (110m H) and Marissa Simpson (100m H), while Arianne Morais (javelin) and Jakub Belik (high jump) will also see action in Austin. Oghenekaro Brume returns to the track as the senior will see action in the women's 200-meter dash at the Bobcat Invitational.
