UTEP Softball Opens Conference Play at Home Against MTSU

EL PASO - UTEP softball (14-5) will open Conference USA play March 8-10 as it hosts Middle Tennessee (10-13) for a three-game series at Helen of Troy Field.

 Leading Off  

  • UTEP leads Conference USA in doubles (43), doubles per game (2.26), shutouts (4) and slugging percentage (0.506). The Miners rank second in the nation in doubles and doubles per game right behind East Carolina. 
  • UTEP batted .322 through 19 games paced by six players who are batting at or above the mark, three of which have 50-plus plate appearances (Ajia Richard, Lexi Morales, and Halle Hogan). Richard leads the way with a slash line of .406/.441/.719 on 26 hits that include nine doubles, a triple, and three home runs. Richard and Morales lead the conference in doubles (nine) and doubles per game (0.47).  
  • Along with Richard and Morales, three other Miners have double-digit RBIs already on the season, with Halle Hogan leading the way with 18. 
  • In week four, Richard went 7-for-17 with three doubles and a home run for 4 RBI and 13 total bases. 
  • Eight players, including Hogan and Richard who account for three each, contributed to UTEP's total of 14 home runs. Richard and Kenna Collett have each hit one our of the park for a grand slam this season. 
  • The UTEP pitching staff holds a 3.08 ERA. Faith Aragon leads the conference in victories (seven) while Taja Felder leads the conference with two shutouts. 
  • Zaylie Calderon ranks third nationally with four saves.

  • MTSU brings a 10-13 record and is riding a five-game win streak heading into the weekend. 
  • The Blue Raiders are hitting .296 and have a total ERA of 3.45.  
  • MTSU's Kamryn Carcich leads CUSA and ranks fourth nationally in innings pitched (68.0). The senior has logged five complete games, which is tied for the league lead. Her busy work in the circle has put her over 200 innings (209.1) in her two years at MTSU. 
  • UTEP leads the all-time series, 12-7.
