YOUNGSVILLE, Louisiana - UTEP's beach volleyball team concluded their 2024 season with determined efforts at the Conference USA Championship held at Sugar Beach. Despite facing challenging opponents, including nationally ranked Florida Atlantic and Missouri State, the Miners showcased a competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
In its first match against nationally ranked Florida Atlantic, UTEP battled fiercely but was ultimately defeated 3-0. The Sandy Owls secured victory by clinching wins on courts 2, 5, and 4, while courts 1 and 3 remained unfinished.
Undeterred, UTEP showed resilience in their second match against Missouri State. Despite ultimately falling 3-2, UTEP made significant strides, securing their first two points in a conference tournament in the program's brief history. The Beach Bears of Missouri State took an early lead by securing the first point on court 5. However, UTEP fought back, taking a 2-1 lead after dominating performances on courts 1 and 2. Despite their efforts, Missouri State rallied, securing victories on courts 3 and 4 to clinch the match.
"This was a good season with some incredible growth from our players," Associate Head Coach Daniel Foo said. "I am so incredibly proud of all these ladies. We made huge strides in our style of play, both offensively and defensively. We are bringing an exciting brand of volleyball, and it was great to have a winning season. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of experience in post season play and I think that cost us a bit. It won't happen again, and I know this team will be better next year."
