UTEP Softball and Tennis Programs Garner Academic Honors From CUSA

6/27/2024 10:51:00 AM

DALLAS – The UTEP softball and tennis teams each took home the Conference USA Sport Academic Award for their respective programs, the league office revealed Thursday.

The honor goes to the teams that have the top GPA among all CUSA programs for their sports. The Miner softball squad boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.63 to snag the top spot in the league for the sport. Meanwhile, the UTEP tennis team secured the honor for the third straight scholastic year by boasting a cumulative GPA of 3.86.

It marks the latest academic accolade for UTEP softball, which recently had a program-best 18 student-athletes named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2023-24 year. Furthermore, Zaylie Calderon, Lexi Morales and Ajia Richard were selected to the CUSA Softball All-Academic Team. It was the second straight campaign that Morales was so distinguished while Calderon was also previously honored in 2021.

Seven different UTEP tennis players posted perfect 4.0 GPAs to help the squad stand alone in the conference yet again. Additionally, Veronika Lebisova became just the third CUSA women's tennis student-athlete to be named to the league's All-Academic team for a third straight season. The program also won the top GPA honor for all UTEP teams at the annual Golden Pick awards.
