UTEP Men’s Golf’s Teeter Tops Leaderboard, Miners’ 272 Lowest Round in Eight Years at Mark Simpson Invitational Monday

ROUND ONE RESULTS

ERIE, Colo. – UTEP men's golf's Dylan Teeter found himself atop the leaderboard after a career day in the second round, and the Miners will start the final day in fourth after shooting their lowest round in eight seasons after 36 holes at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National GC (par 72 | 7,567 yards) on Monday.   
 
UTEP was one of 10 programs to play all 36 as the nine other schools' round was delayed by darkness. Tuesday's final round will tee off with an 8:30 a.m. MDT shotgun start. Those remaining nine programs will wrap up the second and roll into the final round.

The Miners (285-272), who penciled in a 19-under par 557, finished tied for seventh after their round-one score but moved up three spots after firing an astonishing 272 in round two. It was the lowest round for the program since the 2016-17 season (268 on Oct. 17-18, 2016, at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate). UTEP is one stroke behind Colorado State and ahead of Wyoming by three strokes.
 
Teeter (69-65) penciled in a career-best 7-under par 65 during an exciting second round and finished 10-under par 134 in first place. He eagled at 17 (par 4, 364 yards) to help drive the momentum. The senior shot a 69 in round one, entering the second tied for ninth. Teeter is ahead of Colorado's Justin Biwer (67-68-135) by a stroke. Teeter leads the field with a 3-under on par 3 holes while tallying 25 pars, nine birdies and an eagle. 
 
Braden Smith (71-67-138) is tied for eighth after firing a career-low 5-under par 67 in round two. Smith shot up 25 spots after his impressive second round and is tied with four other competitors. The junior recorded a team-best 11 birdies and tied for second most on the course.  
 
Max Schliesing (70-69-13) kept his score low in the second round, firing a 69 and moving up five spots tied for 12th. Schliesing is tied with four others. The redshirt senior is second on the team with 10 birdies (t-sixth most) and has 21 pars. 
 
Patrick Foley (76-71-147) got off to a slow start but rebounded with a 1-under par 71 in the second round. Foley moved up 17 spots and is tied for 72nd. Foley's registered seven birdies and 21 pars. 
 
Alexandre Godin (75-73-148) sits tied for 77th
 
Current leader and host Colorado (-27), St. Mary's (Calif.) (-21), Colorado State (-20), Wyoming (-16), Utah (-10), CSU-Fullerton (-2), Denver (-1), Valparaiso (+4) and Southern Utah (+36) have played thru 17-18.
 
UTEP, along with nine other programs, completed their rounds as Boise State (287-278-565, -11) is in sixth, NM State (285-284-569, -7) is eighth, Tarleton State (284-288-572, -4) is ninth, Utah State (285-289-574, -2) and Northern Colorado (290-284-574, -2) are tied for 10th, Creighton (289-289-578, +2) is 14th, Air Force (295-292-587) is 16th, Central Arkansas (295-295-590) is 17th and Colorado School of Mines (301-294-595) is 18th
