UTEP Men’s Golf Opens Spring Action at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate in Cancun Feb. 2-4

EL PASO – UTEP men's golf will tee off the spring portion of the 2024-25 season as the Miners will play at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate hosted by UTRGV at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 72 | 6,701 yards) in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on Sunday through Tuesday. 
 
Sunday's first round (18 holes) tees off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET/6:30 MT. Monday's (18 holes) second round and Tuesday's final round (18 holes) will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Taking the links for the Miners are Max Schliesing (70.8 stroke average), Dylan Teeter (70.1), Alexandre Godin (73.1), Braden Smith (72.1) and Patrick Foley (74.2). Kevin Watts, who transferred to UTEP from Kentucky in early January, will compete as an individual in his first action with the Orange and Blue. 
 
The Miners will compete against host UTRGV, ACU, Cal Baptist, Denver, Lamar, Louisiana, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Seton Hall, SMU, UTA, UTSA, Western Carolina and Wichita State.

The UTEP men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the schedule with a top-10 finish, placing fourth at ORU's The Clerico at Oaks CC (par 70 | 6,950 yards) on Oct. 28-29. 
 
The Miners (290-281-296) dropped a few spots to fourth (of 13 teams) at 27-over par 867 and 15 strokes behind team champion no. 30 Northwestern (284-289-279) which shot a 12-over par 852. No. 36 Little Rock (285-290-300—875) tied for fifth, eight strokes behind UTEP. 
 
Schliesing (72-70-71—213) finished as the top Miner and tied for fifth overall. Schliesing tallied 11 birdies and an eagle. Following a double bogey at 13, the redshirt senior pared the next three of four holes, while penciling in a birdie at 17 to move up two spots. Schliesing finished six strokes behind the individual champion Northwestern's Cameron Adam (67-70-70—207). 
 
Teeter (71-72-72—215) finished tied for 11th after shooting 2-over par in the final round. Teeter recorded six birdies and an eagle.
