UTEP Men’s Golf Set to Compete at the 48th John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai’i February 13-15

JOHN A. BURNS INTERCOLLEGIATE FACT SHEET

EL PASO – UTEP men's golf will tee off at the 48th John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i at the Ocean Course at Hokuala (par 70 | 7,098 yards) in Lihu'e, Kauai'i, Hawai'i, starting Thursday through Saturday.
 
Each round will begin with a 9 a.m. HST/Noon MST during the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

Taking the links for the Miners are Dylan Teeter (70.3 stroke average), Max Schliesing (71.1), Alexandre Godin (73.4), Patrick Foley (74.1) and Braden Smith (73.2). Freshman Massimo De Giorgi will make his UTEP debut competing as an individual. 
 
The Miners, ranked no. 86 on ScoreBoard, will compete against host Hawai'i, no. 21 BYU, no. 58 Cal, Fresno State, no. 55 GCU, no. 10 Illinois, no. 39 Long Beach State, Missouri, no. 63 New Mexico, no. 71 Saint Mary's, no. 23 San Diego State, no. 68 Santa Clara, no. 28 Texas A&M, no. 40 UNLV, no. 16 Utah and Washington State.

The UTEP men's golf team opened spring season with a second-place finish at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate hosted by UTRGV at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 72 | 6,701 yards) on Feb. 2-4.
 
It was the best finish for the Miners this season and the first stand-alone second-place finish in six seasons. UTEP's last stand-alone second-place finish was on April 2, 2018, at the Bearkat Invitational. 
 
UTEP (298-275-306), which carded a phenomenal second round on Feb. 3 to enter the final round tied for first, finished in second place at 15-over par 879 and 15 strokes behind tournament champion no. 16 SMU (293-280-291—864). North Texas (297-289-297—884) finished third. Host UTRGV (309-304-299—912) placed 11th, and UT Arlington (309-312-309—930) finished last.
 
Dylan Teeter (73-67-75) finished as the top Miner and tied for fourth place at 1-under par 215. Teeter tallied nine birdies and an eagle during the three-day event. Teeter recorded six birdies during Monday's second round. 
 
Max Schliesing (76-65-76—217) placed tied for seventh overall. Schliesing tallied a team-high 13 birdies, including eight in the second round.
