EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (3-1) will look to stay hot while also wrapping up a season-opening six-match homestand with two contests this weekend. The Miners will play host to I-25 rival New Mexico (3-4) at 10 a.m. MT on Friday before capping the weekend with a matchup vs. Lamar (2-4) at 10 a.m. MT Sunday.
 
The Orange and Blue have claimed two straight and three of four to start dual-match campaign strong. UTEP has outpaced its opponents to a combined score of 15-1 in its three victories, including rolling Weber State, 4-0, on Feb. 6 and ousting UTPB, 5-0, on Feb. 9, last time out. The lone setback in the stretch came against UTSA, which is 10-0 on the year.  
 
"Coming off two good matches last weekend, we are very excited to host New Mexico and Lamar this coming weekend," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We have been playing very focused and consistent. We plan to keep that going this weekend as well against some very strong competition."
 
Carlotta Mencaglia is riding a three-match win streak, with all her victories in the spring coming at the No. 1 slot. DeCora Antoine (No. 6 singles) and Paloma Hennicaux have both claimed consecutive contests, Hennicaux now boasts a team-best 13-4 mark in singles, including 2-0 at the No. 3 position.
 
Candice Bernier is off to a 2-1 start in the spring while holding down No. 2 singles. The same can be said for Wendy Zhang, who has solidified No. 5 singles by winning both matches for UTEP. Hanna Telzynska is 1-0 at No. 4 in the dual season while boasting an overall record of 11-5.
 
UTEP has forged a record of 8-3 across the board in doubles action since the onset of spring play.
