NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced that UTEP great Bert Cameron be inducted into the Collegiate Track & Field/Cross Country Athlete Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Cameron will be one of 12 enshrined on Sunday, June 8, at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Ore. The induction ceremony is free and open to the public and will be held three days prior to the start of the 2025 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

Cameron competed with the Miners from 1980 to 1983 and sprinted his way to success. The native of Spanish Town, Jamaica, is a five-time national champion. He took a pair of indoor 440-yard dash championships in 1980 (48.7) and 1981 (48.23). Cameron also won a trio of 400-meter dash titles – 1980 (45.23), 1981 (44.58) and 1983 (44.62). He was an NCAA All-American first team five times (1980, 1981 Indoor; 1980, 1981, 1983 Outdoor).

Cameron holds the school record in the 400 indoor with a time of 46.30 (1981) and his part of the program-record 4x400-meter indoor relay team (3:07.5 in 1980). He also ranks second in school history with a 44.58 in the 400 at the 1981 NCAA OTF Championships.

Cameron is a three-time competitor at the Summer Olympics (1980 in Moscow, 1984 in Los Angeles & 1988 in Seoul). He took silver in the 4x400 in Seoul.

Cameron joins UTEP distance great Suleiman Nyambui, who was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame in 2022 – the first-ever class.

This year, Cameron will be honored with jumper Amy Acuff (UCLA, 1994-97), mid-distance/distance runner Cathy Branta (Wisconsin, 1981-85), mid-distance runner Joaquim Cruz (Oregon, 1983-84), mid-distance/distance runner Joe Falcon (Arkansas, 1984-89), c.e./jumper Diane Guthrie (George Mason, 1991-95), sprinter Larance Jones (Turman, 1970-74), mid-distance runner Madeline Manning (Tennessee State, 1967-72), thrower Scott Neilson (Washington, 1976-79), sprinter Suziann Reid (Texas, 1996-99), hurdler Gillian Russell (Miami, 1992-95) and hurdler Spec Towns (Georgia, 1934-37).

This year's class features some of the greatest names in collegiate track & field and cross country history. With 55 national collegiate titles, 17 collegiate records, eight Olympic/World Championships medals, and six world records while in college, these athletes left an indelible mark on the sport.

The Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame was established in 2022 to honor the best of the best in collegiate track & field and cross country. The Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of athletes who have left a lasting mark on the sport during their time in college.
