5/26/2026 10:22:00 AM

SCHEDULE

EL PASO – UTEP freshmen Michael Kpomassy (shot put) and Cydni Martin (100 and 200-meter dashes) will continue their seasons at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships West First Round in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonnell Field starting on Wednesday through Saturday.

Kpomassy is scheduled to throw on Wednesday, starting at 12:45 p.m. MDT/1:45 CT in the first round of the men's shot put. The original start time was 6 p.m. MDT, but was moved up due to potential inclement weather. Martin will run the 100-meter dash in the first round on Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. MDT/7 CT, and will then sprint in the first round of the 200 at 7:45 p.m. MDT/8:45 CT. The quarterfinals for the 100 and 200 are set for Saturday.

"We're excited to be here in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. This is a tremendous opportunity for our program, and we're proud to have two freshman student-athletes competing at this level," first-year UTEP head coach Francesca Green said. "Cydni Martin qualifying in both the 100 meters and 200 meters speaks to the outstanding season she's had and the work she's continued to put in throughout the year. Michael Kpomassay qualifying in the shot put in his first season with our program is also a huge accomplishment and shows the type of impact he's capable of making."

Kpomassy returns to Fayetteville after recording his first official collegiate shot put mark at the Arkansas Twilight on May 8. Kpomassy had a 16.87-meter throw (55-4.25) and followed that with a gold-medal performance at the Conference USA Championships on May 15, hurling a personal-best 17.94 meters (58-10.25). Kpomassy ranks 43rd on the West Region qualifying list.

Martin, in her first season, has been impressive. In the West Region qualifying list, Martin ranks 44th in the 200 with a time of 23.41 (SMU Invitational) and is 46th in the 100 with a time of 11.42 (Pacific Coast Invitational).

"For both of them to reach this stage as freshmen says a lot about their talent, competitiveness, and future within our program. It also speaks to the foundation we're continuing to build here at UTEP and the direction we believe this program is heading," Green said. "We're excited to see them compete against the best athletes in the country and continue representing what it means to be Miner Built on the national stage."
