EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (1-1) will return to the courts for two home matches this week, playing host to Weber State (0-5) at 12 p.m. MT Thursday before welcoming UTPB (0-0) to the Sun City for a 12 p.m. match on Sunday. The contests are part of a season-opening six-match homestand before the Miners hit the road.
"We are very pumped up to get back out on the court and compete, especially at home," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We have two strong opponents coming to town and are ready for the challenge."
UTEP split its opening weekend of action, blasting Western New Mexico, 6-1, in the opener on Jan. 18 before falling to former Conference USA rival, UTSA, 4-0, on Jan. 19. The Orange and Blue have been hard at work since that point, ironing out the kinks and preparing for the opportunity to compete again.
Paloma Hennicaux (12-4 has set the tone for the Miners in singles, with
Hanna Telzynska (10-5) also in double digits for singles victories.
Candice Bernier (7-6) also has a winning mark.
Carlotta Mencaglia and Telzynska have rolled to a record of 11-5 in doubles, followed by the pairing of Bernier and Szczepanska (7-5).
