EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (4-4) is poised to meet the challenge of playing three road matches in five days, with the Miners set to compete at Southern (0-7) at 1 p.m. MT/2 p.m. CT Tuesday, at Nicholls State (2-4) at 1 p.m. MT/2 p.m. CT Thursday and at New Orleans (3-4) at 11 a.m. MT/12 p.m. CT Saturday.
"We have three good matches in Louisiana this week," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "While we are short-handed and battling through injuries, we are ready for the challenge. I am so proud of this group and how they have come together through all of these adversities that we are dealing with. I know they will play hard and leave everything out on the court."
Hanna Telzynska is riding a two-match winning streak (2-0, No. 4 singles), which has boosted her overall record to 12-5 on the year.
Carlotta Mencaglia has been practically unbeatable, standing 5-1 at No. 1 singles while
Candice Bernier has provided a steadying presence at No. 2 singles (2-2).
Paloma Hennicaux, who boasts a team-best 14-6 overall record, has put in quality work at No. 3 singles (3-2).
Wendy Zhang has rolled to a record of 3-1 at No. 5 singles while
DeCora Antoine is holding down the sixth slot by standing 3-2 as well.
UTEP has also been solid in doubles action, with an 11-9 mark in dual play across the board.
