UTEP Track & Field Posts Four Victories on the Final Day at Arizona’s Willie Williams Classic Saturday Afternoon

FINAL RESULTS

TUCSON, Ariz. – The UTEP track and field team concluded its outdoor opener with more personal bests and multiple first place finishes at Arizona's Willie Williams Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The women set the tone for the day when the squad, comprised of Samoya Neil, Denae McFarlane, Marissa Simpson and Rejoice Sule, with a victory in the 4x100-meter relay with a 44.02 to start competition. The time ranks as the second best in program history. Last season's best was 44.18 at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta.
 
Simpson opened her outdoor campaign with a victory and set a career best in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.88 (+0.2). The senior beat out 30 other competitors on her way to posting the second best time in program history. It was Simpson's sixth career victory in the event. Her previous best was 12.93 (+1.5) at the 2024 NCAA West First Round.  
 
Sule continued her successful sophomore season outdoor opener with a first place finish out of 52 competitors in the women's 100-meter dash, clocking in an 11.38 (+0.9). Sule also finished second in the 200 (23.36 [+01.]) on Friday night. 
 
Peace Ewa leaped 1.69 meters (5-6.5) and tied for first in the women's high jump in her outdoor debut for the Miners. The sophomore's outdoor height topped her indoor mark (1.66m). 
 
The women's pole vault saw a pair of Miners finish in the top five. Sophomore Alla Parnov was third with a 4.00-meter (13-1.5) leap. El Paso native freshman Sarah Dovenbarger, in her collegiate outdoor debut, leaped 3.76 meters (12-4) for a fifth place showing. 
 
Sophomore Esther Osisike finished seventh of 31 throwers in the women's discus at 46.93 meters (153-11).

UTEP returns to action at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin at Mike Myers Stadium on March 26-29.
