LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UTEP tennis team (6-7, 0-4 CUSA) came up short, 4-0, at Liberty (8-10, 2-0 CUSA) Sunday afternoon. The homestanding Flames won the doubles point and then did enough in singles play to keep a Miners' comeback at bay.
 
"It was a tough match today," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "Liberty was very strong all the way up and down the lineup. I felt like we competed better than yesterday, but they were stronger today. We played with heart and energy. We are needing a few days to recover to hopefully come back closer to full strength for our next match."
 
Carlotta Mencaglia and Valeria Carreño Torres fell to Daniella O'Neill and Maria Turchetto, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles. Paloma Hennicaux and Wendy Zhang were dispatched by Yu-Yun Chen and Celina Joseph, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles. Hanna Telzynska and DeCora Antoine went unfinished, 3-3, at No. 2 doubles vs. Anika Lemus and Yoanna Radulova.
 
The Miners kept battling in singles, but a comeback was not in the works. Hennicaux was held off by O'Neill, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Zhang was dispatched by Lemus, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Antoine was knocked off by Jospeh, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. The other three courts went unfinished.
 
UTEP will be idle until playing host to CUSA foe Sam Houston on "Senior Day" at 12 p.m. MT on April 6.
