UTEP Track & Field’s Simpson Advances to 100 Hurdles Finals Friday

AUSTIN, Texas – UTEP track and field senior hurdler Marissa Simpson qualified for Saturday's 100-meter hurdles final at the 97^th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on Friday afternoon.

Simpson clocked in 13.02 in the women's 100 hurdles first round event, placing sixth overall. She finished second of eight in heat three. Howard's Marcia Sey turned in the top time (13.00), while Texas' Akala Garrett (13.09) was second, and Texas Tech's Naomi Krebs (13.33) was third. Garrett won heat one, and Krebs was first in heat four.

Simpson and eight other competitors will race in Saturday's final at 1:12 p.m. MDT.

Also advancing to Saturday's final were Kentucky's Emmi Scales (fourth overall, 13.23), Arkansas' Shania Myers (fifth, 13.49), Kentucky's Alexis Glasco (seventh, 13.29), Arkansas' Simone Ballard (eighth, 13.35) and TCU's Amari Kiluvia (ninth, 13.37).

The women's 4x100-meter relay team (Samoya Neil, Addison Stricklin, Simpson, Rejoice Sule) came up two spots short of advancing to the finals, placing 11^th with a 45.04.

Amir Williams clocked in a personal-best 13.89 in the men's 110-meter hurdles first round, however, placing 13^th and just missed advancing to the finals.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team (Loubna Benhadja, Samahdi Foster, Chinique Brown, Princess Uche) clocked in a season-best 3:42.19 in first round action. The Miners finished 10^th, missing Saturday's final event by a spot.

Sule finished 11^th in the women's 100-meter dash first round with a time of 11.51 (1.0).

Neil leaped a season-best 5.59 meters (18-4.25) in the women's long jump B. The senior placed sixth.

Stricklin clocked in an 11.92 in the women's 100-meter dash timed final. It was the freshman's first collegiate action in the 100 event.

On Saturday, to wrap up the weekend, Alla Parnov will compete in the prestigious women's pole vault ELITE at 12:30 p.m. MDT. Esther Osisike (9 a.m. MDT) and Aleks Hristov (1:30 p.m. MDT) will also see action in the discus, while Jakub Belik will leap in the men's high jump A at 1:45 p.m. MDT. Sule will wrap up the day in the women's 200-meter dash invitational at 2:35 p.m. MDT.
