UTEP Men’s Golf Places 12th at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate Sunday Afternoon

FINAL RESULTS

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – UTEP men's golf came in 12th place at Michigan's Desert Mountain Intercollegiate at Desert Mountain, Outlaw Course (par 72 | 7,107 yards) on Sunday.
 
The Miners (296-304-289) shot 1-over par in round three, moving up a spot to 12th overall. No. 27 Mississippi State (275-292-286), which jumped out to a nine-stroke lead in round one (-13), won the tournament at 11-under par 853. No. 10 Utah (284-294-279—857) and Grand Canyon (289-290-280—859) rounded out the top three finishers. No. 48 Kansas (286-295-292—873) placed fifth. Host Michigan (295-298-285—878) moved up three spots after a 285 in round three, finishing seventh. Central Michigan (307-323-321—951) was last.
 
Patrick Foley (70-77-73—220) finished as the top Miner for the first time in his career. Foley finished tied for 28th and tallied 12 birdies on the weekend. 
 
Max Schliesing (73-76-72—221) moved up seven spots to tie for 31st. Schliesing recorded 10 birdies. He added an eagle on hole 16 (par 5 | 532 yards) during first-round action. 
 
Alexandre Godin (78-74-70—222) shot up 19 places to tie for 33rd after shooting 2-under in round three. Godin got off to a slow start, recording only a pair of birdies in the first two rounds. The freshman responded by penciling in six of them during the final 18 holes. 
 
Branden Smith (75-81-74—230) and Dylan Teeter (79-77-74—230) rounded out the order of finish for the Miners. Smith eagled holes 2 (par 5 | 552 yards) and 16 in round three. Smith and Teeter each moved up 14 spots to finish tied for 61st
 
GCU's no. 136-ranked Matthew Diehl (68-65-69) won the individual title at 14-under par 202. Mississippi State's no. 99 Garrett Endicott (67-68-72) and Utah's Braxton Watts (69-72-66) tied for second at 9-under par 207. 
 
UP NEXT
UTEP will compete at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate in Tucson, held at the Tucson Country Club on March 17-18. It'll mark the first of three tournaments to close the regular season before the Conference USA Championship in late April.
