UTEP T&F’s Simpson Clocks in PR 12.81 in the 100 hurdles at the Sun City Classic Friday

FINAL RESULTS

EL PASO – UTEP track and field completed its first regular-season meet for the first time in six years as multiple Miners set personal bests and claimed victories at the Sun City Classic at Larry K. Durham Track at Kidd Field on a clear and scenic Friday. 
 
Marissa Simpson blazed out to a personal-best 12.81 (1.1) with a first-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Simpson's previous best was 12.88 at the Willie Williams a few weeks ago. Simpson also added a personal-best time of 23.39 (0.2) in the women's 200-meter dash, finishing in first place. Her previous best in the 200 was 23.82. 
 
"This was a great first step in bringing meets back to Kidd Field," Director of Track & Field Mika Laaksonen said. "A little thing like the weather is important to get it going right. The weather couldn't be any better and made for a nice day of events." 
 
Zacarias Velasquez leaped a personal-best 7.15 meters (23-5.5) in the men's long jump, placing second. His previous best was 6.84m (22-5.25).
 
Natalie J. Murillo won the women's hammer throw with a personal-best 50.97 meters (167-3). The senior did it on her second attempt. Her previous best was 50.92 (167-1). 
 
Lizbeth Fierro finished second in the hammer with a personal-best 49.75 meters (163-3). Fierro's previous best was 49.69m (163-0). 
 
In the men's hammer throw, Noah Jirgens placed second with a personal-best 59.46 meters (195-1). His previous best was 59.38m (194-10). 
 
Esther Osisike won the women's discus throw at 47.45 meters (155-8) and took first place in the shot put with a 14.17-meter (46-5.75) hurl.
 
The women's 4x100-meter relay team (Addison Stricklin, Denae McFarlane, Simpson, Rejoice Sule) finished first with a 44.32. 
 
Jakub Belik won the men's high jump with a season-best 2.18-meter (7-1.75) leap. 
 
Princess Uche won the women's 400-meter dash with a 54.08. 
 
Loubna Benhadja won the women's 400-meter hurdles with a 58.40. 
 
Praise Djoma won the women's triple jump at 12.46 meters (40-10.5).
 
Alla Parnov used a season-best 4.09 meters (13-5) to win the women's pole vault. 
 
Peace Ewa won the women's high jump at 1.65 meters (5-5). 

Aron Tanui won the men's 800-meter run with a 1:51.61.
 
UP NEXT
UTEP will compete at four different meets next weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 16-18), the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays (April 16-19), the Pacific Coast Invitational (April 17) and the Beach Invitational (April 18-19). The Miners will then compete at two more regular-season meets before the Conference USA Championships in mid May.
