UTEP Men’s Golf Concludes Regular Season with Sixth-Place Finish at Mississippi State’s Old Waverly Collegiate Championship Tuesday

WEST POINT, Miss. – UTEP men's golf moved up another three spots to finish in sixth place and no. 149 Max Schliesing tied for fourth on the final day of regular-season competition at Mississippi State's Old Waverly Collegiate Championship at Old Waverly Golf Club (par 72 | 7,088 yards) on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
UTEP (302-283-294—879) carded the second-best score in round three to climb three spots up the leaderboard and place sixth out of 13 schools. It was the Miners' best finish since their second-place showing at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate on Feb. 2-4. UTEP led the field with five eagles and finished with 49 birdies, the third most during the two-day event. 
 
Following a 1-over par 73 in the first round, Schliesing (73-67-70—210, -6) penciled in a 67 in round two to catapult 21 spots. The redshirt senior followed with a 2-under par 70 in the third round to climb up another seven spots to finish tied for fourth. Schliesing tallied a team-most 14 birdies and an eagle on hole 2 in round three. Schliesing tied for the lead, shooting 10-under on par 5 holes. Schliesing finished ahead of nine golfers ranked in the top 150. 
 
Tournament team champion, no. 3 Ole Miss (265-271-289—825, -39) never looked back after taking a commanding lead on day one. The Rebels shot the lowest team round in event history on the first 18 holes – 23-under par 265 on Monday. Ole Miss totaled a tournament-most 74 birdies. Ole Miss finished the tournament at 39-under, a new tournament low-54. The previous record was 20-under par by Georgia in 2021. 
 
No. 15 Alabama (277-286-295—858, -6) finished in second place. Host no. 32 Mississippi State (280-281-298—859, -5) and Troy (282-282-295—859, -5) tied for third place. Murray State (301-308-324—933, +69) was last. 
 
Dylan Teeter (73-70-72—215, -1) moved seven spots up to 14th after shooting even par 72 in round three. Teeter recorded nine birdies. Teeter finished ahead of four competitors who are ranked in the top 150. 
 
Patrick Foley (77-74-76—227) finished tied for 45th after moving up seven spots. Foley had 10 birdies and eagled hole 9 in round two. 
 
After moving six spots up, Alexandre Godin (80-73-76—229) finished tied for 58th. Godin tallied nine birdies. 
 
Massimo De Giorgi (79-73-78—230) finished 61st. De Giorgi led the field with a trio of eagles. The freshman eagled hole 2 in round 1 and holes 10 and 15 in round 2. 
 
Ole Miss' no. 78 Tom Fischer (65-67-71—203) and no. 8 Michael La Sasso (67-67-69—203) tied for the individual championship at 13-under par. Fischer's first-round score on Monday was tied for the third-lowest individual round in OWCC history. Fischer and La Sasso's scores tied the individual low-54 in tournament history. The record was previously set by Marcus Byrd of Middle Tennessee in 2019.
 
Ole Miss' no. 66 Kye Meeks (67-66-75—208, -8) finished in third, five strokes behind the leaders. ULM's no. 95 Louis Anceaux (68-66-76—210, -6) tied for fourth with Schliesing. 
 
UP NEXT
UTEP will take the links at the 2025 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship in Texarkana, Ark., at Texarkana Country Club on April 21-24. The Miners came up in last year's match play final against Liberty. UTEP was the fourth seed during last year's match play and beat top-seeded LA Tech to advance to the championship round.
