UTEP Men’s Golf Team, Braden Smith Tied for Second after Two Rounds at CUSA Championship Tuesday

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UTEP men's golf team penciled in a 4-under 284, the second-best score in round two, and Branden Smith moved two spots, tying for second place after 36 holes at the 2025 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship at Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6969 yards) on Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The Miners (290-284—574) used a pair of eagles from Smith (hole 2) and Max Schliesing (hole 7) to find themselves in a three-way tie with Middle Tennessee (285-289—574) and Sam Houston (291-283—574). The Bearkats moved up three spots on the leaderboard after shooting a round-two best 5-under par 283. 
 
After a hot start in round one, Liberty (277-293—570) shot 5-over par 293 in round two. The Flames, however, maintained their lead by four strokes. Kennesaw State (292-285—577) moved two spots to fifth, three behind the Miners, Bearkats and Blue Raiders. NM State (291-288—579) dropped a place to sixth, LA Tech (288-294—582) fell out of the top three to seventh. WKU (299-288—587) and Jax State (300-292—592) are eighth and ninth, respectively. 
 
Smith (69-71—140) continued his improved play and is one stroke behind current leader Liberty's Ike Joy (68-71—139), who jumped a spot to first. Smith is tied for first shooting 5-under on par 5s (4.38) and ranks third in the field in birdies (nine). 
 
Smith is tied with NM State's Aidan Thomas (70-70—140), Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard (72-68—140) and Sam Houston's Hugo Trommetter (74-66—140). Trommetter and Borregaard shot the two best scores in round two – Borregaard climbed 12 spots, while Trommetter made the biggest jump at 21 spots. 
 
Smith tallied an eagle and three birdies in round two. He's collected nine total birdies after 36 holes. 
 
Dylan Teeter (74-70—144) jumped eight spots to tie for 15th after shooting 2-under par 70 during the second round. Teeter birdied four holes on the day. 
 
Alexandre Godin (71-74—145) dropped 10 spots to tie for 19th, Schliesing (76-71—147), who struggled in round one, leaped eight spots to tie for 25th, and Patrick Foley (77-72—149) moved six spots to tie for 31st.
 
Smith and Schliesing are two of six competitors to turn in an eagle. 
 
Liberty's Josh Ryan (67-79—146), who held the top spot after one round, fell 22 spots to tie for 23rd
 
Overall, the Miners have penciled in 29 birdies, 114 pars and two eagles. UTEP is shooting 7-over on par 3 holes (3.17 average), ranking second behind Sam Houston (+5, 3.13). The Orange and Blue also rank second on par 5s at 14-under (4.65 average) behind MTSU (-16, 4.60). 
 
Round three (Wednesday) and semifinals match play (Thursday) will also start at 8 a.m. CT. Coverage for semifinals match play will be on ESPN+.
